Introduction to the Train the Trainer Programme of Learning
The Train the Trainer Programme of Learning endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) is a hands-on, challenging and enjoyable thirty hour programme of development.
This training course focuses on the development of practical training skills.
During this intensive training programme, trainers get plenty of opportunity to practice skills required for their training role.
Who is this programme suitable for?
The Train the Trainer programme is aimed at employees who are new to training or experienced trainers who want to refresh or update their skills and knowledge. This is also suitable for training specialists or supervisors who need to train as part of their job role, and the programme is also good for anyone who delivers presentations or small, short communications such as ‘tool box talks’.
Focusing on the training
The main skills required by a trainer are being able to communicate effectively, achieve a high level of interaction, provide opportunities for their learners to practice and provide feedback.
The trainers will receive structured feedback from Polaris Learning as they master being able to deliver training through different approaches.
In this training you will:
- Learn about training and development
- Know the key to developing successful presentations
- Understand group dynamics and learn how to deal with difficulties that you might face when training a group
- Deliver your own group training piece and receive feedback
- Learn about delivering demonstration and instruction on a one-to-one basis, the benefits and barriers, and EDIP
- Find out about questioning and feedback techniques
- Deliver a one-to-one training piece and receive feedback
Programme support
You will be assessed continuously over the three days, and we will support you to develop your confidence and skills so that you are be ready to be assessed on a final piece of training that you’ll deliver at the end of the programme. Upon completion you will receive your certificate endorsed by the ILM.

TRAIN THE TRAINER DELIVERY METHOD FOR YOUR LEARNERS
REMOTE LEARNING
The programme starts with three virtual workshops (delivered by webinar), access to online learning and includes some assessment so that you achieve the Train the Trainer endorsed by the ILM.
During this training programme, you will work with our trainer to boost your knowledge, confidence and abilities in 1 to 1 and group training.
The virtual workshops will be running:
- Tuesday the 28th of June: 8:30am – 10:30am (BST)
- Wednesday the 29th of June: 10:00am – 12:00pm (BST)
- Thursday the 30th of June: 8:30am – 9:30am (BST)
Part 1: Presentation Skills
The focus of Part 1 is on being able to plan, develop and deliver effective presentations.

Part 2: One to One Training and Coaching Skills
The focus of Part 2 is on one to one training, facilitation and coaching.

Part 3: Assessment
The final part focuses on the assessment requirements and achievement of the award.

Final Assessment (presentation or coaching session) | Delegates will be asked to prepare and present either their Presentation or one to one Session (this will be mutually agreed between candidate and assessor). They will receive one-to-one feedback from their tutor at this stage. |
Knowledge Assignment and Candidate Reports | Delegates will be asked to complete their Knowledge Assignment and Candidate Report and will submit for final assessment |
Final Assessment and Feedback | The assessor will complete the final assessment and will give feedback and confirm completion |
