We’re also thrilled to present our latest Research Insights, where we explore the impact of customised safety awareness training. What We Have Been Up To

We hosted another successful Lunch and Learn in collaboration with AquaTerra Training and Bon-Accord Training Limited at the start of October. This event featured presentations from Iain of Bon-Accord Training, who discussed training stages for compliance; Helen of Polaris Learning on developing high-performance leaders; Keith on aligning training with organisational strategy; and Charlie from AquaTerra Training on meeting workplace training standards.
Over recent years, we’ve developed a valuable collection of guides, tips, and strategies that offer insights into key areas like Leadership Development, Competency Management, and Training & Coaching. Now, these resources are available in one place! We have developed a single web age with all the resources readily available. Each resource addresses common challenges and provides initial guidance, though the real transformation occurs when tailored to your organisation. You can find these resources in the top right hand side of our website in the 'Our Guides' tab.
We have had more success this month in Modern Apprenticeships as we were thrilled to present Cameron Dudgeon from Amazon UK with his SCQF Level 7 in Management this month. Since beginning the programme, he’s been promoted twice and is now part of Amazon’s Global team. Cameron’s exceptional work and dedication more than earned him this qualification—congratulations, Cameron! Congratulations also to Sarah from Laeso Fish Limited, who completed her Modern Apprenticeship and SVQ in Management at SCQF Level 7. Sarah’s commitment and high standard of work made her achievement well-deserved. Well done, Sarah! A special mention goes to Tony Murphy, who successfully completed his L3 qualification in Food and Drink Operations: Fish and Shellfish. Tony’s extensive knowledge of his company’s processes and procedures helped him complete the course in record time. Great work, Tony!
Our team has been active with leadership development across multiple Fugro locations, including Nootdorp in Holland, Plymouth, Wallingford, and Porchester. Carlos has also led impactful sessions at Fugro sites in Houston and Singapore, ensuring tailored support for their teams globally. In addition, we’ve been delivering Train the Trainer programmes at UTEC Singapore, and Score Group here in Aberdeen, focusing on empowering trainers to deliver high-quality, effective training. Our High Potentials series with Sparrows continues, with the latest workshop dedicated to developing essential leadership skills. Through these engagements, we remain committed to helping organisations worldwide foster strong leadership and achieve excellence in competency development.
We’re also thrilled to be working with Bells Food Group on a series of leadership development workshops for their managers. It’s fantastic to be working together as Bells Food Group continue investing in their team, looking at communication, performance management, and resilience skills.
We’re exited to be working with ADES on their management development programme with the SVQs in Management (jointly awarded with Chartered Management Institute) and Learning and Development at the heart of the programme.  We have worked in a close partnership for many years on assessor and verifier training and qualifications, and it is great to now work together on leadership competencies.
Earlier this month, we had our Assessor L&D9DI open course, bringing together participants looking to sharpen their skills in competency-based assessments. This course is designed for those assessing workplace competence, covering everything from planning assessments to gathering evidence and giving constructive feedback. Throughout the sessions, attendees explored both direct and indirect assessment methods, gaining hands-on experience with each step of the assessment process. With support from our Polaris Learning consultants, participants felt prepared and confident to apply what they learned in real-world settings. This course is a great option for organisations aiming to reinforce their internal assessment practices and ensure everyone’s working to the same high standards. We will be hosting more of these open courses early next year, with Train the Trainer already in place for February!

Research Insights

Induction training plays a crucial role in ensuring new employees understand essential safety protocols, and research shows that customising these programs can significantly improve knowledge retention, engagement, and compliance. Here’s a closer look at why tailored safety awareness training is key to building an effective learning culture and maintaining a safe work environment.

The Advantages of Tailored Induction Training

1. Specificity to Workplace Risks and Procedures

Studies from the Journal of Workplace Learning demonstrate that employees retain up to 70% more information when training content is directly relevant to their work environment and duties. Incorporating specific procedures into induction programs makes safety training more meaningful and actionable, reducing incidents by addressing real, on-the-job risks .

2. Increased Engagement with Practical Content

Research from Safety Science finds that incorporating relatable scenarios into training materials can boost knowledge retention by over 60%, as employees report higher engagement with content that feels directly applicable. Tailored training reduces the perception of training as a mere "tick-box" task, creating a proactive safety culture that leads to long-term compliance.

3. Efficiency Gains through Centralised Platforms

According to a 2019 Association for Talent Development study, organisations using centralised, digital training platforms report up to 40% less time spent on compliance management. A centralised academy simplifies tracking and ensures that all employees are up to date on critical safety standards, reducing administrative burden and enhancing oversight.

4. Strengthening Company Culture through Custom Branding

The LinkedIn Workplace Learning Report indicates that 65% of employees feel a stronger connection to their company’s mission and values when training is branded to reflect their organisation’s identity. Integrated branding in training helps employees feel that safety and compliance are core to the company’s mission, which supports a stronger safety culture from the start.

5. Role-specific and Flexible Learning Paths

Role-specific training enables employees to focus on competencies essential for their specific job functions, reducing information overload. The American Society for Training and Development found that custom, role-targeted training enhances knowledge retention by allowing employees to apply new skills directly within their roles. Flexible access also encourages self-paced learning, leading to better understanding and retention of crucial safety information.

Why Customised Induction Training is a Strategic Asset

Investing in customised induction training goes beyond basic compliance. Research shows that tailoring induction programs enhances learning outcomes, fosters a safety-focused culture, and creates a more efficient, engaged workforce. With a well-structured, personalised induction program, organisations can ensure that employees are not only compliant but also empowered to uphold safety and operational standards in meaningful ways. In summary, tailored induction training offers a strategic advantage by embedding safety and operational procedures into the learning experience. This approach leads to improved retention, engagement, and efficiency, making it an essential part of any robust safety and compliance strategy.
